Sooo…..
Sage is legally our daughter. This is amazing news if we plan on petitioning the Ethiopian government to let us in, set up our tent and stay for a while. She is our daughter, but we can’t actually go pick her up and bring her home until our U.S. government says ‘yes’.
So my elation that we passed court is definitely overshadowed by my prayers that USCIS gets back to us rather quickly. I have learned that there is no predicting how they may respond.
I’m seriously thinking of fasting for the duration of our wait, but I don’t know what to fast from. Coffee came to mind, but I’m not sure that I’m a good person if I don’t have my coffee.
Desserts are another option, but that seems selfish since it would always be good to shed a few pounds. Giving up desserts could definitely serve that vanity.
Vegetables could go, but that wouldn’t be healthy (not to mention a salad a day…)
Fruits are just a staple part of the diet and their sugars have a better reputation than those in say - chocolate cake. So, if the body is a temple, the chocolate cake should definitely be bid ‘good-bye’ before the mangoes…but there’s that dieting vanity again.
What am I left with? I think my only option for fasting is to devour a 2lb steak – rare – and wash it down with a gallon of milk. Everyone knows I hate a big lump of red meat on the stomach (the self-sacrificing part of eating what I don’t like) and likewise, we all know milk does a body good (the temple aspect of my sweet bod).
I’m just not sure. It’s a real dilemma that could have been avoided had USCIS found us worthy to bring our daughter home just a little sooner.
